Amusing. I've been a little intimidated to sew clothes for this same reason. The paper-pieced blocks look great!

Thanks Nicole for the link. It's lovely! I bought some Butterick patterns and will blog soon. Elizabeth, there's a great paper piecing tute on the baby jane site. Mrscjallen, I have NO IDEA what to do with those blocks. Know any babies that need a small quilt?

Sorry to say Anne, that you do indeed smile normally like that. I'm sorry about the dress disaster, barbie is usually better attired. Although she did look quite interesting in pink very large and chunky knitted skirt made by small girls in the 80s.

I quit for a long time because of frustration with patterns and results. I went back to try some vintage patterns (because I never find my size in any reasonable condition) and found it a lot easier. I *swear* that vintage patterns go together easier. I'm not sure why that is.

great advice for beginners here: http://www.dressaday.com/labels/beginners.html

You see, this is why I stopped sewing my own clothes. I would buy a pattern that looked great, spend good money on fabric and spend the hours sewing it and put it on and hate either the fit or the color or something. It was awful! Since I have made a few children's items and my daughter's wedding dress but nothing for me! I mostly stick to quilts and the occasional repair/mending.
